New Home Sales Rise in April
New
home sales rose 3.3% in April versus the previous month, and the median and average
sales prices both also posted significant gains the Commerce Department reported
on Tuesday (May 27).It was the first month-to-month rise in six months.
In April, new homes sold at a seasonally adjusted rate
of 526,000, according to a joint report from the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Census Bureau.
The rate was up from 509,000 homes in
March but well below the sales rate in April
2007 of some 907,000 homes.
In the Northeast, some 34,000 homes were sold in April
compared to approximately 24,000 in March.
